Integrated Distribution Planning System

Each year, we share a Distribution Annual Planning Report that outlines how we plan to develop and improve our electricity networks over the next five years. This report is available to everyone on our website. It’s designed to keep you informed about where we’re investing and to explore smarter, more efficient alternatives to traditional network upgrades.

What has changed?

There’s a proposed change to the National Electricity Rules that would replace our current report with a new one called the Integrated Distribution System Planning Report (IDSP). Instead of being released every year, the IDSP would be published every two years and look much further ahead—covering our investment plans for the next 15 to 20 years.

The IDSP will also involve more collaboration with communities and stakeholders, work more closely with transmission network planning, and include new information about how the network is being used—especially as more customers both use and share energy through the grid.

To support the IDSP, we’ll also be developing a Network Data and Insights Roadmap. This will outline what network data we plan to make available, when it will be shared, and how it can help customers and stakeholders. The first version of the Roadmap will be released in July 2027 and will guide data access over the following seven years.

Our response

We see these changes as a positive step forward. They’ll help ensure our network planning is more in tune with what customers need and expect, now and into the future. It will also bring our planning processes more in line with those used in the transmission network, making things more consistent across the energy system.

Importantly, the changes will create more opportunities for customers and communities to be actively involved. We believe this deeper engagement will deliver real value—not just for customers, but for the broader energy market.

We support the proposed rule change and are looking forward to connecting with customers and communities across the state soon. We’re especially excited to explore how the new IDSP and future data sharing can help you make more informed energy choices.
