Be a part of our electrification of agriculture research program

26 February 2025

We're committed to providing a safe, reliable, and affordable electricity supplies while helping our customers move closer to a renewable energy future.

As Victoria and Australia move toward net-zero targets, electricity is becoming an increasingly favorable energy source. To support an equitable renewable energy transition, this program aims to understand the electrification needs and future plans of farmers across our network. The insight from this research will help guide grid development and enhancements for the next regulatory period.

The program

We are committed to understanding the specific electrification needs of farmers across our network and understand whether our rural and regional network investment in our 2026-31 regulatory reset proposal adequately addresses future needs. The feedback we receive is critical to support the investments proposed in our regulatory proposal with the energy regulator, but also an opportunity to discuss whether it goes far enough given the changing energy needs of the agricultural sector.

From late March to early April 2025 we will be conducting an in-depth engagement program, of two hour interviews and site visits across a diverse range of agriculture industries. The key agriculture industries across our network the program will be focusing on are:

  • Dairy
  • Grain
  • Animal husbandry
  • Irrigation
  • Fruit farms
  • Processing.

To ensure the independence of this program, we will work with our partner agency Forethought.

The results of this program will be shared with you in late April or May 2025. Stay tuned to this page for the report.
